matrix.org is a growing ecosystem for open, decentralised chat, voip and iot communication.

the matrix project defines an open baseline standard of restful http apis alongside open source, apachelicensed reference implementations of servers, clients and services. it can be used to synchronise realtime data between multiple destinations, for example for iotstyle services and of course for instant messaging, irclike chat rooms, and voice and video calls/conferencing.
