open source scaleout sanpetasan is an open source scaleout san solution offering massive scalability and performance. petasan uses modern cloud based technologies to provide the elasticity and agility to scale up the storage cluster simply by adding more nodes, this can be done at any time and in a truly nondisruptive manner.
easy to usealthough petasan uses different underlying technologies that are inherently complex, it provides an integrated end to end solution that is very easy to install and operate. petasan can be operated by nonlinux admins through its easy to use graphical interfaces while still allowing linux experts full control if they wish to access the command line using ssh.
delivering true clustered iscsipetasan is designed from the ground up to do one thing: provide highly available clustered iscsi disks. in petasan, an iscsi disk can have many access paths, each identified by its virtual ip address. these ip addresses are clustered across several storage nodes. access to the same disk is load balanced across different nodes in a symmetric active/active fashion. moreover these ip addresses are not tied to particular hosts, but rather are virtual ips that can be dynamically moved from node to node. if a node fails, its virtual ips will be reassigned to other nodes thus providing high availability on a path level, this is all done transparently to the client. petasan is ideal for deployments requiring many i/o operations that need to be executed in parallel. example cases of high i/o concurrency include:
ms hyperv deploymentsvmware vsphere deploymentssetting up a scalable shared file system such as ms scale out file server (sofs)big data analyticsdatabase servers with many parallel transactions per secondceph based iscsipetasan brings proven technologies powering many of today’s largest clouds to the datacenter with point and click interfaces. petasan relies on the ceph (www.ceph.com ) storage engine.
